Ali Weimer was Minnesota's top individual finisher in 48th.
MINNEAPOLIS --Â The University of Minnesota women's cross country team concluded its season with an 18th-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis., at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. Junior Ali Weimer crossed the finish line first for Minnesota, placing 48th overall.Â
The Maroon and Gold finished with a total of 435 team points to finish 18th out of 31 teams at NCAAs. Weimer's time of 20:10.5 was good enough for 48th overall, the best finish by a junior (or younger) at Minnesota since 2010 (Stephanie Price). Additionally, the 20:10.5 time for Weimer goes down as the fifth-fastest NCAA Championships 6K race in school history.Â
Back at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2021, the Golden Gophers improved on their No. 23 ranking heading into the NCAA Championships by finishing 18th as a team. The 18th-place finish is the third time in the last five years that Minnesota has finished inside the top 20 at the national meet.Â
Narrowly putting down her own program top 10 NCAA time, Emma Atkinson came through the finish in a time of 20:30.0, ending her college career in 93rd overall at NCAAs. Behind Atkinson was fellow senior Erin Reidy, who ended her career by moving up 44 spots over the final 1000m of the race to finish in 125th overall (20:42.0). Fourth for Minnesota was first-year Gopher, Charlotte transfer Nadia Phillips. Phillips closed hard to finish in a time of 20:48.8 to end in 148th while fellow sophomore Izzy Roemer was right behind in 149th in a time of 20:49.2.Â
Minnesota's sixth and seven runners on Saturday were Brianne Brewster and Isabelle Schmitz. In her final college cross country race Brewster clocked a 21:07.1 in her NCAA Championships debut. Schmitz, a true freshman, rounded out Minnesota's participants at the national meet, clocking a 21:08.0.
