Dietz Named to U.S. Women’s National Team Staff

MINNEAPOLIS – USA Hockey has named long-time Gopher Hockey strength & conditioning coach Cal Dietz to the coaching staff for the U.S. Women's National Team. Dietz will serve as head strength & conditioning coach for the U.S. squad.
With the Maroon & Gold, Dietz has trained a Hobey Baker Award winner, three Big Ten Athletes of the Year, athletes that have achieved 543 All-American honors, 11 NCAA Team Championships, 35 Big Ten/WCHA championships teams, 29 Big Ten/WCHA Conference Tournament, 23 NCAA Final 4 Finishes, 203 Individual Big Ten Champions and 16 Olympic and World Champions.
The U.S. Women's National Team convenes at the 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp (Dec. 9-13) at XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The U.S. will then take on Canada in the first two games of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series with games on Dec. 14 in Hartford and Dec. 17 in Moncton, New Brunswick. The 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp will also prepare the U.S. Women's National Team for the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship.
Dietz, whose role with USA Hockey will be in conjunction with his position at the University of Minnesota, will be joined on the U.S. Women's National Team staff by Gopher women's hockey associate head coach Joel Johnson and Gopher women's hockey equipment manager Brent Proulx. Additionally, 10 current or former Minnesota women's hockey players will participate at the 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp.

Minnesota continues its six-game, November home stand this weekend with a two-game Big Ten series with Wisconsin at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The Gophers open the series on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 p.m. CT (TV: FOX Sports North; Radio: 1130 KTLK-AM/103.5 FM; Stream: FOX Sports Go/TSN) before closing out the Border Battle on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:00 p.m. CT (TV: FOX Sports North PLUS; Radio: 1130 KTLK-AM/103.5 FM; Stream: FOX Sports Go/TSN).
All tickets for the 2019-20 Gopher Hockey season – the 99th campaign in program history – are now on sale through GopherSports.com. Season tickets start at $500 – the lowest price point for season tickets at the University of Minnesota since 1999-2000. Highlighting the 2019-20 slate is one of the strongest home schedules in program history with Minnesota hosting all six Big Ten opponents (Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin) along with nonconference foes in North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, Bemidji State, St. Cloud State and Niagara.
