Fasching, Collins Named to U.S. WJC Camp Roster

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gopher Hockey's Hudson Fasching and Ryan Collins have been named to the U.S. National Junior Team camp roster in preparation for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, USA Hockey announced on Tuesday morning.

Both products of the U.S. National Development Team Program (USNDTP) in Ann Arbor, Fasching and Collins bring a wealth of international experience into camp.

A native of Burnsville, Minn., Fasching will look to make his second appearance at the World Junior Championship after tallying four points (two goals, two assists) in five games last year for the U.S. in Sweden. The sophomore forward previously helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the 2013 IIHF U-18 World Championships with six points. Fasching has seven points (five goals, two assists) in 12 games for the Gophers this year and has 37 career points (19 goals, 18 assists) in 52 games. He earned All-Big Ten Rookie Team accolades and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors last year as a rookie.

A native of Bloomington, Minn., Collins helped the U.S. win a gold medal at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championship in Finland and has previously earned bronze medals at the 2013 Five Nations Tournament in Finland and the 2013 World Under-17 Challenge in Canada. The freshman forward leads all Minnesota newcomers this season with four assists.

The U.S. camp opens up on Dec. 16 at Boston University's Walter Brown Arena with the team set for three pre-tournament games in advance of the World Juniors - Dec. 19 vs. Boston University at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Dec. 21 vs. Germany and Dec. 23 vs. Sweden (both at the Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario). The U.S./Boston University exhibition game will be streamed online at http://www.goterriers.com/collegesportslive.

The 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship is scheduled to begin Dec. 26 with the gold medal game being played on Jan. 5. The event will be co-hosted in Toronto and Montreal with the U.S. competing in Group A along with Canada, Finland, Germany and Slovakia. Group B features the Czech Republic, Denmark, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden. All Team USA games in the IIHF World Junior Championship will be televised live on NHL Network and also streamed at NHL.com. NHL Network will also televise additional games during the event.

Gopher Hockey has been represented at 37 of 38 IIHF World Junior Championships since the inaugural event in 1977 including 22-straight World Junior Championships since 1993.
