Box Score

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 2 Minnesota women's hockey team scored two third-period goals to secure a road win over Princeton at the Tigers' Hobey Baker Rink Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Maryanne Menefee (Lansing, Mich.) scored early in the third period to break a scoreless tie before Princeton's Jaimie McDonell scored on the Tigers' fourth power play of the game, but the Gophers held on for the 2-1 win.

Junior Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) made 15 saves in the win as Minnesota (13-1-2, 9-1-2-0 WCHA) outshot the Tigers, 44-16. Princeton (6-5-1, 4-3-0 ECAC Hockey) received 42 saves from Kimberly Newell.

Brandt broke a scoreless tie 3:15 into the third period. Junior Brook Garzone (Sand Spring, Okla.) intercepted a pass in the Tigers' zone and fed Brandt in the slot. Brandt then navigated the slot and sent the puck past Newell to give the Gophers the 1-0 lead.

Just 1:04 later, Menefee solved Newell to make it 2-0. Freshman Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.) and senior Meghan Lorence (Mounds View, Minn.) picked up assists on the play as Menefee capitalized when Newell and a Princeton skater were tangled up in the goal crease.

Minnesota held Princeton to 1-for-5 on the power play while going 0-for-1 with the man advantage. The Gophers entered the game leading the nation with a 34.4 power play percentage.

The Gophers look to earn a sweep over the Tigers when the teams wrap up the series at 1 p.m. CT Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
