Steve Patterson joined the University of Minnesota staff in 2015 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and works primarily with women’s basketball.
A native of New Ulm, MN, Steve attended South Dakota State University and completed his undergraduate degree in 2005 receiving a Bachelors’ of Science degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Health Sciences.
From there, he went on to obtain a Masters’ of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science-Human Performance with specialization in Athletic Training in 2007 from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. During his time at the UW – La Crosse, he served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the primary responsibility of Men’s Basketball and providing assisting with Football. He also served as an Approved Clinical Instructor for the accredited Athletic Training Education Program, one of the most competitive, in-depth and hands-on athletic training programs in the country.
Patterson became an Associate Athletic Trainer at Saint Cloud State University in 2007 and provided athletic training services for Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Golf and Baseball. He also served as an Approved Clinical Instructor in SCSU’s accredited Athletic Training Education Program.
In 2011, Patterson moved into a clinical setting working as an Athletic Trainer/Physician Extender for Sports and Orthopaedic Specialists in Edina, Minn.
Steve is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a MN State Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT). He holds certification in Graston Technique ® M1, Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy through Owens Recovery Sciences and has been trained in Active Release Techniques (ART ®) for the Lower Extremity. He has also been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
