Grocholski Surpasses 1,000 Career Points in Minnesota’s 80-34 Win Over Wyoming

Four Gophers hit double figures, led by Brylee Glenn's 14
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team (8-3, 0-1 Big Ten) defeated Wyoming (3-6, 0-0 Mountain West) 80-34 at Williams Arena on Sunday.
The Golden Gophers had four players score in double figures, led by Brylee Glenn with 14 points. Mara Braun added 13 points, five assists and two steals, while Tori McKinney and Amaya Battle chipped in 12 points each. As a team, Minnesota shot 55.9 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from the arc, season highs in both categories.
Led by Sophie Hart's five offensive rebounds, Minnesota did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 17 second chance points.
The Minnesota defense held Wyoming shooters to only 30.4 percent from the field, including 23.8 percent from three-point range. The Cowgirls did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only six offensive rebounds and scored six second chance points while Minnesota pulled down 27 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After tying things up 2-2 to start the game, Minnesota went on a 17-0 run in the remaining 8:52 in the first quarter, culminating on a three from Grace Grocholski, to take a 19-2 lead. The Gophers only allowed four points in the first quarter, ending it with a 19-4 advantage. Minnesota did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 19 points close to the basket.
Minnesota kept its lead intact before going on a 14-0 run starting at the 8:10 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Makena Christian, to increase its lead to 33-7. The Gophers proceeded to tack on five points to that lead and enjoyed a 48-17 advantage heading into halftime. Minnesota dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 29 points close to the basket.
Minnesota wasted no time building on its lead, going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from McKinney, to expand its lead further to 56-17 with 7:37 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Gophers added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 65-25 edge. Minnesota played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.
Minnesota kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Zoey Bershers' three, to grow the lead to 80-34 with 3:02 to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Minnesota fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 15 points.
