Michael Sypniak joined the University of Minnesota Athletic Medicine staff as the Head Athletic Trainer for Football prior to the 2017 Football season. Sypniak comes to Minnesota from the Ohio State University where he worked with Football, Baseball, Field Hockey and Men’s Tennis teams during his tenure. He also served as an advisor to the Ohio State Athletic Training Club and taught a proficiency course for sophomores within the Athletic Training Education Program.
Michael completed his undergraduate education at Slippery Rock University graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. He worked as a student athletic trainer at SRU with Football, Baseball, Track & Field, Women's Basketball, Field Hockey and Swimming. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Sypniak was an Intern Athletic Trainer at the University of Maryland in the Sports Medicine Department working with the Baseball program.
Sypniak attended Syracuse University for his graduate education and was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Football team in 2004 and 2005. He graduated in 2006 with a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science. From there, Sypniak went on to spend a year as an Athletic Training Intern for the NFL Buffalo Bills.
Michael is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a MN State Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT). He holds certification in Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy through Owens Recovery Sciences.
Sypniak and wife, Sarah, have a son, Frazier and a daughter, Ellis.
