2022 | MLB DRAFT  J.P Massey was drafted 200th overall in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates · In the past decade of Gopher baseball, Max Meyer (No. 3 overall, 2020) and Tom Windle (No. 56 overall, 2013) are the only Minnesota pitchers to be drafted higher than Massey.

2022 | SENIOR Made 14 appearances, including 12 starts in 2022, posting a 6.52 ERA and a 2-8 record · struck out 63 batters, walked 39 and allowed 43 earned runs in 59.1 innings of work. Game Highlights: Struck out five and allowed just one earned run in 5.1 innings of work against Indiana State (Feb. 27) · picked up a win against Kansas, punching out eight and allowing just five hits and one earned run in 6.2 innings (March 5) · defeated Western Illinois on March 26 when he tossed 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts (March 26) · went 6.0 innings vs. Penn State (April 23) and Michigan State (April 30), combining to strikeout seven and give up just three earned runs.

2021 | JUNIOR Made nine appearances, including four starts in 2021 for the Gophers · posted a 10.80 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts. Game Highlights: Struck out two in 2/3 innings pitched against Michigan (April 18). 

2020 | SOPHOMORE Ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 17 overall prospect for the 2021 MLB Draft · made five appearances including three starts for the Gophers · ended the season with a 1-1 record and 4.66 ERA with 24 strikeouts across 19 1/3 innings of work. Game Highlights: Shut down the Wildcat offense over 4 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts in his first start of the season against Arizona · earned the win after tossing 3 2/3 innings of relief with four runs on two hits and four strikeouts against TCU on Feb. 23 · struck out a career-high eight batters while throwing a career-high 5 2/3 innings against No. 14 Duke on Feb. 29.

2019 SUMMER Competed for the Academy Barons of the California Collegiate League · named a CCL All-Star · appeared in nine games and pitched 17 1/3 innings, registering a 3.95 ERA and 22 strikeouts · finished with a 2-1 record on the mound.

2019 | FRESHMAN Made 15 appearances including three starts on the mound · finished 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 25.0 innings, striking out 31 batters. Game Highlights: Made his collegiate debut striking out three in 2.1 innings vs. New Mexico on Feb. 16  · struck out three in 2.0 hitless innings at Dallas Baptist on Feb. 22 · made his first career start, allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings vs. South Dakota State on April 16 · struck out three in 4.1 shutout innings vs. South Dakota State on May 7 · tossed 2.1 shutout innings with three strikeouts vs. Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament on May 22.

BEFORE MINNESOTA A 2018 graduate of Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory School in Chicago · served as a four-year starter and two-time team captain for the Eagles and head coach Anthony Beale · 2018 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-America · also named a preseason All-American Honorable Mention prior to his senior season · played his club baseball for the Chicago White SOX ACE Program, winning the RBI World Series in 2018 · ranked as the no. 4 right-handed pitcher in Illinois and the no. 210 overall player nationally according to Perfect Game as well as the no. 10 right-handed pitcher and the no. 28 overall player in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report ·

Not only do I feel that the academic and college experience is a perfect fit for me, but I also feel that the team and coaches I will spend the upcoming years of my life with, will help mold me for my future and instill, in me, life lessons on and off the baseball field."
