Minnesota Closes Out Weekend at Gopher Invitational and Husker Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS- The University of Minnesota tennis team closed out action at the Gopher Invitational and the Husker Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Gophers had five student-athletes play at Baseline Tennis Center, while another four competed in Lincoln, Neb.

Following the Gopher Invitational and Husker Invitational, select Gophers will have the chance to compete in the ITA Central Regional Championship taking place from Oct. 14-19, in Memphis, Tenn.
Gopher Invitational Results
The University of Minnesota tennis team completed the 14th-annual Gopher Invitational on Sunday going 2-0 in doubles and 2-2 in singles.
In doubles play, Jeselle Ante and Anlin Xie opened with a 6-0 win over Marquette's individuals, Lizzie Stockslager and Elena Duva. Kamea Medora and Anali Kocevar defeated Northern Illinois Irmak Budak and Paulina Masherava 6-3.
In singles play, Leina Gao opened singles action with a 1-6, 2-6 loss over Milwaukee's Nikola Nikolajeva. Kocevar ended the day with a victory against Tommie's Caroline Lindahl 1-6,6-7, 10-5, while Xie defeated Irmak Budak 6-0,6-3.

In doubles play, Mia Liepert and Ksenia Hanke lost to Nebraska's Katie Spencer and Conley Raidt 2-8. Massiva Boukirat and Nora Knezevic lost 4-8 against Kansas University's Polina Koneva and Anna Putilina.
In singles play, Hanke opened with a 3-6,1-6 loss against Nebraska's Conley Raidt, while Liepert defeated Iowa State's Millie Day 6-4, 6-4. Knezevic lost to Nebraska's Reya Lee Cole 1-6, 1-6. To close out day three, Boukirat defeated Kansas's Polina Koneva 6-1, 6-3.
