Gophers Extend Contract for Strodel

Rowing head coach extended through 2029-30
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota Thomas O. Moe Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced Wednesday that rowing head coach Alicea Strodel has agreed to a contract extension that will keep her with the Golden Gophers through the 2029-30 season.
Strodel has guided the Maroon and Gold for the past seven seasons after taking over the program in the summer of 2019. Under her direction, the Gophers have consistently competed among the Big Ten's top programs, while continuing to develop student-athletes and strengthening the program's foundation.
Since coming to Minnesota, Strodel has guided the Gophers to some of its strongest performances in recent history, including a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Big Ten Championship, the program's best finish at the conference championship since 2015. The First Novice Eight crew also earned a bronze medal at the 2024 championship. In 2023, Cecilie Christensen earned Pocock Racing Shells First Team All-America honors, becoming the first Gopher to receive the recognition since 2008.
Academic success has been another hallmark of Strodel's tenure. The Maroon and Gold have produced double-digit CRCA Scholar-Athlete honorees in each of the last six seasons, totaling 93 honorees during Strodel's time leading the program. The Gophers have also recorded 231 Academic All-Big Ten selections and 109 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars during her time on campus.
