MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota rowing head coach Alicea Strodel was recently inducted into the Syracuse Alumni Rowing Association (SARA) Hall of Fame during its annual Evening at Ten Eyck dinner from Drumlins Country Club.

Strodel, along with her former teammates that made up the 2001 Women's V8 crew, were honored by the Orange as the program's only Women's boat ever to reach the NCAA Championship Grand Finals. After starting her collegiate career as a walk-on, she earned a seat on the varsity eight as a sophomore and was named to the CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. In 2001, she rowed in the six seat of the varsity eight and powered the team to a perfect 8-0 season. Overall, she helped the Orange to three NCAA appearances and victories in two BIG EAST Challenges.

Since taking the helm of the Golden Gopher rowing program in the summer of 2019, Strodel has steered the Maroon and Gold through seven seasons of steady growth. The team secured a fifth-place team finish at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, its best performance at the event since 2015, highlighted by a bronze-medal effort from the First Novice Eight boat.

Classroom success has remained equally central to Strodel's leadership. Minnesota has produced double-digit CRCA Scholar-Athletes in six consecutive seasons, accumulating 93 total honorees during her tenure. Additionally, Gopher student-athletes have earned 231 Academic All-Big Ten designations and 109 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards under her watch.
