Golden Gophers Move Into Seventh Place After Day Two at Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Golden Gopher women's golf team finished day two of the Lady Paladin Invitational in seventh place Saturday. Minnesota carded a team score of 289 (+7) in the second round at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
"Very proud of the team," said Head Coach Matt Higgins. "Reese did a great job both mentally and physically to put together a solid round. Mar had a rough start, but showed grit and came back nicely. Looking forward to a great finish tomorrow."
Senior Luisamariana Mesones led the Maroon and Gold after carding a 70 (-2) in the second round of the tournament. After securing five birdies on the day, Mesones moved up four places to land in sixth place on the leaderboard.
Alabama and Xavier sit tied for first place among the 12 teams with respective 8-under-par team scores after the second of three days of competition. Makayla Grubb of High Point is holding the top spot on the individual leaderboard after finishing round two with a 4-under-par 68.
Notable:
Junior Reese McCauley carded a 1-under-par 71 after securing three birdies through 18 holes. She closed out the second round of the tournament tied for 22nd place after moving up 13 leaderboard slots.
Susanna Manns moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard to close the day tied for 49th after the second round. The freshman registered an even round of 72 in her second collegiate round in Greenville, S.C.
Freshman Rose Solberg penciled a score of 76 (+4) during the second round. Securing a birdie on the fifth hole, Solberg sits tied for 49th place alongside her teammate.
Lauryn Finley shot a 7-over-par 79 Saturday after meeting par 11 times. She closed out the second round of the tournament tied for 45th place.
Individual competitor Regan Dusenbery carded a 79 (+7) in the second round, tying for 64th place.
Looking Ahead:
The third and final round of the Lady Paladin Invitational will take place on Sunday, September 20. It is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT with live results available via Scoreboard by Clippd.
