ROSEMONT, Ill. – Golden Gopher senior Luisamariana Mesones was named Big Ten Conference Golfer of the Week on Thursday, the league announced. It is her first time taking home the award this season and fourth in her career after last being recognized in March 2026.
"What a good way to end the fall season for Mariana," said head coach Matt Higgins. "She is someone that is always looking for a way to improve. We are looking forward to her spring season!"
Mesones earned her first collegiate win at the Illini Invitational on Tuesday with scores of 64-67-70 during the 54-hole event. The Trujillo, Peru, native secured her lowest tournament score (201) and tournament score to par (-15) at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. She led the field with 19 birdies over three rounds, including a bogey-free round of 8-under-par in the opening round, finishing two shots ahead of Illinois' Sofia Vargas.
