Turner rushed 16 times for 64 yards and one touchdown last season before suffering a season-ending injury

University of Minnesota running back A.J. Turner was named to the watch list for the 2026 Comeback Player of the Year Award. The announcement was made by College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press (AP) and Fiesta Sports Foundation.

Turner is one of 94 student-athletes on the list. He played in three games last season before suffering a season-ending injury at Cal. Turner rushed 16 times for 64 yards and one score before he was injured.

Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness or other circumstances. At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
