MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – University of Minnesota junior outfielder Charlie Sutherland has been named a CSC Academic All-American first team honoree, as announced by College Sports Communicators today.
The 2026 Academic All-American teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. This marks Sutherland's first career Academic All-American nomination, and the program's first Academic All-American honoree since Micah Coffey in 2018.
On the field this season, Sutherland led all Gopher starters in total hits (63), and RBIs (56). The junior outfielder also ranked second on the team in batting average (.325), OPS (1.006), and slugging percentage (.572). After starting the year as the everyday DH, Sutherland moved into the starting right fielder spot mid-season and went on to tally 36 total putouts with two assists for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. His performance throughout 2026 earned him All-Big Ten third team honors, his first all-conference nomination of his collegiate career.
Off the field, Sutherland tallied a 3.95 GPA throughout the 2025-26 school year, earning him Academic All-Big Ten honors and CSC Academic All-District honors. The neuroscience major was one of 36 student-athletes throughout the conference to earn the Big Ten's Jackie Robinson Community and Impact Award, an honor that recognizes select student-athletes throughout the Big Ten for their positive impact in their sport and in their community.
