The Gophers will host Illinois, Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers, and travel to Michigan, Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota wrestling team has learned its conference opponents for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign as the Big Ten released home and away designations Thursday.
The Golden Gophers are set to host Illinois, Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers. Of note, the Gophers and five-time defending national champion Nittany Lions will meet in a dual for the first time since Penn State came to Minneapolis in February of 2020. Meanwhile, the Illini visit Maturi Pavilion for the first time since 2023, the Terrapins return for the first time since 2024, and the Scarlet Knights are back after last competing in Minneapolis in 2025.
Conversely, Minnesota is scheduled to travel to Michigan, Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin. The Gophers visited both the Wolverines and Boilermakers in 2024 and went on the road to face the Cornhuskers and Badgers in 2025.
The Gophers are set to return eight starters from last season's squad, including five that competed at the NCAA Championships, headlined by 184-pound national champion Max McEnelly. In addition, the Gophers bring back reigning All-American Jore Volk (125 pounds), as well as two-time All-American Vance VomBaur (141) and rising redshirt sophomores Charlie Millard (157) and Koy Hopke (285), who both competed in their first NCAA Championships last season.
Minnesota is coming off a ninth-place finish at last year's NCAAs, the team's fifth top-10 finish under head coach Brandon Eggum.
The complete 2026-27 Big Ten wrestling schedule with dates will be announced in September.
