The Liberian thrower won the hammer, was second in the shot put and third in the discus.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track and field team finished in sixth place at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb. Anthonett Nabwe claimed the lone Golden Gopher conference title in 2026 in the women's hammer throw and added a silver medal in the shot put and a bronze medal in the discus.
Nabwe's 24 total team points would have tied the Liberian thrower for 12th overall in the team standings at Big Tens. Nabwe's 69.22m (227-1) in the hammer throw on Friday came on attempt two of the competition and nearly matched the redshirt junior's Big Ten Championships meet record she set in 2025 in Eugene. On Saturday Nabwe's clutch sixth-round shot put of 18.00m (59-5 3/4) pushed her from fourth to the runner-up finish and earned eight team points. Sunday's conclusion for Nabwe came in the discus where she earned a medal finish for the second straight year with a toss of 57.75m (189-5).
After a lengthy delay late in the day due to weather, Ali Weimer overcame warm conditions to grab a silver medal in the 10000m on Friday night, her highest finish in any Big Ten Championships. The 2024 Big Ten Cross Country Big Ten Championships bronze medalist stuck with the leaders throughout the competition that started at 10 p.m. CT. After 5600m of the race Weimer never dropped below third place in the competition and clocked her fastest 400m split at the 6000m mark at 1:16.48. Weimer, the school record holder in the 10000m, secured the highest finish in the event at the conference championship since 2021 when Bethany Hasz won the event in 33:30.04 in Champaign.
Redshirt junior Hadley Streit broke through for her first career Big Ten medal in the women's hammer throw. In round five Streit's 67.55m (221-7) helped her finish with the bronze medal on Friday, earning the team six of its combined 20 points in the women's hammer throw final. Senior Ella Pavlovich scored for the first time in her final Big Ten Outdoor Championships with her third-round 59.76m (196-1) to score four team points. Minnesota's 20 team points in the women's hammer throw were the most by any team at the Big Ten Championships since 2018 when the Gophers scored 21.
For the second time in three years Zoie Dundon captured a Big Ten medal in the 3000m steeplechase. Dundon's 10:07.50 helped the redshirt junior secure her third straight podium finish in the event and gives her five career conference medals between indoor and outdoor. Dundon's performance captured six team points for Minnesota and marked the fourth straight year at least one Gopher finished in the top five of the steeplechase at the Big Ten Championships.
Ten other events for the 'U' went on to finish in scoring positions over the three days of competition at Nebraska's new outdoor track and field facility that opened in April of 2026. Diarra Sow and Kennedy Martinson both captured fourth-place spots in their respective events. Sow's 13.36m (43-10) in the third round held on for fourth while Martinson's 57.90 in the 400m hurdles earned Minnesota five team points. Additionally Kitania Headley registered a lifetime best in the 400m hurdles final at 58.62 to finish in sixth overall.
Nontokozo Ncube scored in both the 400m and as a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished seventh. Ncube raced to a fifth-place finish in her Big Ten Outdoor Championships debut after joining the program in January. In the 4x400m relay Ncube ran the second leg of Minnesota's 3:38.20, along with Zeal Kuku, Martinson and Headley.
In her Big Ten Outdoor Championships debut Rejoice Agbewodie scored in the women's javelin on Friday with her best throw of 50.45m (165-5) in round five. In the pole vault it was Sofia Condon who improved on her lifetime best in the event by one centimeter to finish seventh overall at 4.33m (14-2 1/2). Lastly, Izzy Roemer was Minnesota's lone eighth-place finisher on the women's side with a 34:03.54 in the 10000m on Friday.
