Nabwe broke a tie with two-time Big Ten champ Shelby Frank for most weekly conference honors at the 'U'.

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the fourth time this season redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe has earned the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The recognition is the 10th of the Nabwe's career and comes after her Big Ten record hammer throw performance in Baton Rouge, La.

In her first meet outdoors after winning the 2026 NCAA weight throw title indoors Nabwe sent her first hammer throw attempt 71.22m (233-8) at the Battle on the Bayou at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Nabwe's winning throw catapulted her to the No. 1 all-time spot in Big Ten history, surpassing Amber Simpson of Illinois (70.21m | 230-4), who set that previous record in 2024. Nabwe, a current 'The Bowerman' Watch List member, continued her impressive weekend with a lifetime best 59.58m (195-5) in the discus at the Battle on the Bayou to finish as the meet's runner-up. Nabwe's mark in the discus improved on her No. 2 spot in school history while her hammer throw of 71.22m (233-8) broke her own school record from 2025.

Nabwe's Big Ten record in the hammer gives her two conference records this season between the weight throw indoors and the hammer throw outdoors. In 2026 Nabwe currently sits at No. 1 in the Big Ten in both the hammer throw and the discus. Nationally this season the Liberian ranks No. 2 in the hammer throw and No. 4 in the discus.

In her career, Nabwe has won 10 different Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons. She now owns the program record for most weekly conference honors in a career, breaking a tie with two-time Big Ten champion Shelby Frank. In conference history, Nabwe is tied for fourth with those 10 all-time weekly honors with the all-time women's record held by Cindy Ofili of Michigan with 12. Between indoor and outdoor this season the Maroon and Gold have won five weekly honors with Nabwe claiming the distinction four times while Zeal Kuku was named the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this year indoors.

Minnesota's only action this upcoming week will be in Arden Hills, Minn., at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday, April 11. For more information on the Gophers, continue to check back with GopherSports.com.
