MINNEAPOLIS ā The fourth-seeded University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell to the fifth-seeded Northeastern Huskies, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena to close the 2025-26 campaign. Minnesota nearly doubled Northeastern in shots and applied heavy pressure late, but the Huskies capitalized on early opportunities with three first-period goals to secure the victory.
Northeastern opened the scoring early, finishing a two-on-one rush at the 5:03 mark of the first period.
The Huskies struck again less than four minutes later. Skating in on another odd-player rush, Northeastern fired a low shot far side to make it 2-0 at 8:53 of the opening frame.
Northeastern added a power-play goal at 14:31 of the first to jump out to a three-goal lead, tucking home a rebound at the back post.
The teams skated through an even start to the second period before Northeastern pushed the lead to 4-0. After killing off a Minnesota power play, the Huskies worked the puck from below the goal line through the low slot to an uncovered skater who finished the chance at 12:21.
Minnesota broke through with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. On the power play, Sydney Morrow fed Josefin Bouveng below the goal line, and Bouveng found Abbey Murphy on the back door for the finish to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Murphy struck again with 1:31 remaining to make it a 4-2 game. With the Gophers on the power play, Morrow found Murphy at the left faceoff dot, where she one-timed home her second goal of the afternoon.
Minnesota continued to press late but was unable to close the gap before time expired.
With the loss, Minnesota finishes the 2025-26 season at 26-12-1 (18-9-1 WCHA), while Northeastern improves to 29-8-1 (21-2-1 HE) and advances to the Frozen Four in University Park, Pa., next week.
