Gophers Shut Out at No. 22/25 Grand Canyon, 6-0

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Minnesota Golden Gophers were not able to score a run against No. 22/25 GCU pitcher Taryn Batterton on Thursday night and were shut out 6-0 by the Antelopes at GCU Softball Stadium.

Sydney Schwartz (4-3) got the ball to start for Minnesota (6-10) and took the loss after tossing two innings. Natalie Susa was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit, with one walk and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by Lucy Hooper, who went 1-for-3 on the day. Scarlett Kuhn and Tinley Easton also recorded hits for Minnesota.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota didn't manage to advance a runner past first base in the ballgame.

Grand Canyon (17-0) opened the scoring in the first inning, using a leadoff single and stolen base from Sydney McCray before a Jada Cooper RBI single made it 1-0. The Antelopes added two runs in the second to stretch the lead to 3-0, then pulled away with three more runs in the sixth to account for the 6-0 final.
