School Records Fall on Day Two of Men’s Big Ten Championships

MADISON, WIS. – The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving programs posted a successful day two of competition at the 2026 Men's Big Ten Championships, breaking a pair of school records and tallying multiple NCAA qualifying times.

 

Over in the diving well, Drew Bennett seized the Gopher's first medal of the meet with a second place finish on the 1-meter springboard. Bennett tallied a score of 365.25 to earn his first career podium finish at the conference championships.

 

Jacob Johnson started off the day breaking the school record in the 100 fly, tallying a NCAA qualifying time and personal best of 44.86 in the prelims to earn a spot in the "A" finals. Johnson went on to finish seventh overall in the event with a finals time of 44.92. David Harabagiu finished 12th overall in the event with a NCAA qualifying time of 45.93.

 

Joe Polyak broke the second school record of the day in the "B" finals of the 400 IM, finishing 11th overall with a personal best and NCAA qualifying time of 3:42.51. Alberto Hernandez, John Watson, and Jack Ballard finished 18th, 19th, and 23rd respectively in the event with each earning personal bests.

 

Daniel Eichel was the sole competitor for the Gophers in tonight's 200 free "C" finals, finishing 19th overall with a time of 1:34.89.

 

Max Scheurer tallied a 22nd overall finish in the "C" finals of the 100 breaststroke, tallying a time of 53.86.

 

Minnesota closed out the night with a ninth place finish in the 200 free relay, posting a final time of 1:18.23. Jacob Johnson launched the relay for the gophers with a split time of 19.82, followed by Davide Harabagiu with a split of 19.29 on leg two. Ian Steffen tallied a 19.48 split in leg three, while Ryan Slonac anchored the relay with a split time of 19.64.

 

The University of Minnesota sits at eighth overall in the team standings after day two with a total score of 249. Indiana University takes over at the top of the leaderboard with a total team score of 535.

 

The 2026 Men's Big Ten Championships continue tomorrow from the Soderholm Family Aquatics Center. All the action is set to kick off at 10:00 AM.
