No. 12 'U' Gets Road Win Over GymDawgs

Minnesota heads into the Big 4 Meet at 6-3 (4-2 B1G)

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The No. 12 Minnesota gymnastics team took down the Washington Huskies on Friday night at Alaska Airlines Arena for their second straight win. The Gophers tallied a 196.950 while Washington finished with a 196.300.

Minnesota moved to 6-3 (4-2 B1G) on the year while Washington dropped to 3-7 (2-4 B1G). The 'U' will conclude its Big Ten slate next weekend at home in the Big Four Meet against No. 11 Michigan State, Illinois and Rutgers.



The Gophers posted scores of 49.175 on vault, 49.200 on bars, 49.250 on beam and 49.325 on the floor. Washington went 48.800 on vault, 49.000 on bars, 49.425 on beam and 49.050 on the floor.

Teryn Crump won the vault title with a 9.900 while Jordyn Lyden won on bars with a 9.925. On the balance beam, UW's Chelsea Hallinan won with a 9.975. Minnesota's Jordyn Lyden also won on the floor with a 9.925. The Gophers' beam team had three 9.900-or-higher scores, led by Arianna Ostrum and Brooklyn Rowray with 9.925's.

"Our team has such a good culture and we kept the energy going no matter what happened," Ostrum said. "I think having that family-like bond helped us keep pushing and we just tried to execute like we do in practice."

EVENT BREAKDOWN:
BARS
The Gophers earned a 49.175 on the uneven bars to start the night. Jordyn Lyden took home her team-best third bars title of the season with a 9.925. Emma Slevin posted a 9.875 while Gianna Gerdes was right behind her with a 9.850. Lacie Saltzmann led off with a 9.825 while Teryn Crump rounded out the top five at 9.725. Minnesota led 49.175-48.800 after the first rotation.

VAULT
Minnesota earned a 49.200 on vault to extend its lead over the GymDawgs. Teryn Crump won her third vault title of the year with a 9.900 in the number four spot. Gianna Gerdes kept her stellar night going with a 9.850. Ava Stewart led the group with a 9.825 while Isabella Nguyen and Sarah Moraw both tallied 9.800s. Minnesota led 98.375-97.825 after two rotations.

FLOOR
The 'U' tallied a 49.325 floor score. Jordyn Lyden had another standout performance in an anchor spot, this time on the floor with a 9.925. It was her second career 9.900-or-better score on floor. Lacie Saltzmann led off, tying her career-high with a 9.875 while Sophie Swartzmiller totaled a 9.875 as well. Gianna Gerdes and Leah Gonsiorowski rounded out the top five with 9.825s. Minnesota extended its lead after three rotations to 147.700-147.250.

BEAM
Minnesota finished the meet with a 49.250 beam score. Arianna Ostrum started off the group with a career-best 9.925 while Brookly Rowray matched her with the same score. It tied a season-best for Rowray as well. Sarah Moraw was up next with a 9.900 beam score while Ava Stewart was fourth with a 9.850. Lauren Pearl rounded out the top five with a 9.650.

NOTABLE:
-Minnesota took home its second road win of the season in four tries.
-Sarah Moraw tied her season-high with a 9.900 beam routine.
-Arianna Ostrum hit her career-best on beam with a 9.925.
-Brookyln Rowray tied a season-best with a 9.925 on beam.
-Lacie Saltzmann tied her career-high on the floor with a 9.875.
-Sophie Swartzmiller went 9.875 on floor, marking her 12th straight meet with a 9.850-or-higher on the event.
-Jordyn Lyden won her third bars title of the year with a 9.925, tying her season-best. She also went 9.925 on the floor, her second-best floor score ever.
-Teryn Crump won her third vault title of the year and first since Jan. 24 with a 9.900, tying her career-best.
-Minnesota is now 3-0 vs. Washington in gymnastics since they joined the Big Ten last year. It was their first meeting in Seattle since 2014.
