The redshirt junior set a new Big Ten record in the weight throw last weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the third time this season redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe has earned the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The recognition is the ninth of the Liberian's Gopher career and comes on the heels of her Big Ten record weight throw performance in Fayetteville, Ark., the same location as the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

The two-time reigning Big Ten champion added another page to her legacy when she launched her implement 24.67m (80-11 1/4) in round five of the Tyson Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center on February 13. The throw broke the previous Big Ten weight throw record that was held by Olympian Sade Olatoye (Ohio St.) which had held since 2019. Nabwe's toss is the best by any collegiate student-athlete in two years (Jalani Davis, Ole Miss) and is the 14th-best throw in the world this year by a woman. Nabwe's 24.67m (80-11 1/4) goes down as the No. 6 all-time weight throw in NCAA history, per USTFCCCA, and broke 2018 NCAA weight throw champion Kaitlyn Long's school record. In Big Ten weight throw history Nabwe holds three of the top 10 all-time throws while University of Minnesota throwers own eight of the top 10 throws between Nabwe, Long and Shelby Frank.

This indoor season the Maroon and Gold have won four weekly honors with Nabwe claiming the distinction three times while Zeal Kuku was named the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this year. In her career, Nabwe has won nine different Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons.

The final regular season indoor competition for the Golden Gophers will be at the Snowshoe Open on February 20. The one-day meet will be the final test before the 2026 Big Ten Indoor Championships from February 26-28, in Indianapolis, at the Fall Creek Pavilion. The men's track and field team will begin their outdoor campaign on March 6-7 at the Beach Opener, in Long Beach, Calif.
