U.S. Short Course World Championship Trials

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Members of the University of Minnesota swimming programs are headed to Westmont, Illinois this week to compete at the inaugural U.S. Short Course World Championship Trials, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the FMC Natatorium.
This new event from USA Swimming will serve as the primary selection process for the United States national team heading into the 2026 Short Course World Championships in Beijing this December.
Athletes qualify for individual events by finishing in the top two, provided both meet the 'A' qualifying standard, or by winning the event with a 'B' qualifying standard (which excludes the second-place finisher). If an event winner achieves the 'A' standard but the second-place finisher does not - and has not met the 'A' standard at a sanctioned meet between July 27, 2025, and October 31, 2026 - only the winner is selected. Additionally, the top four finishers in the 100 and 200 freestyle events qualify for relay duty, subject to overall roster capacity limits.
Ten current Gophers will be representing the Maroon and Gold in Westmont, including: Rachel Conley, Katie McCarthy, Kamdyn Periat, Claire Reinke, Livi Wanner, Luke Brennan, Ethan Kosin, Joe Polyak, Ian Steffen, and Dawson Walters.

Minnesota will kick off the month of November with their annual border battle against the University of Wisconsin. All the action against the Badgers is set to launch from Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 6 at 5:00 PM.
