MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 2-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team secured a series sweep of Lindenwood with a 5-2 victory on Friday afternoon at Ridder Arena. The Gophers set a program record with 73 shots on goal, led by two goals from Adrianna Milani, who reached double digits on the season.

Milani ignited the Minnesota offense at the 13:09 mark of the opening period. Madison Kaiser forced a turnover in the Lindenwood zone on the forecheck, gathered the puck and fed Milani in the slot for a one-timer to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead.

Minnesota doubled its advantage on the power play at 15:56. From below the goal line, Bella Fanale found Kaiser alone just outside the crease, where she one-timed the puck home to make it 2-0. The Gophers dominated the opening frame, outshooting the Lions 23-1.

Lindenwood responded early in the second period, scoring its first goal of the series at the 5:48 mark.

Chloe Primerano restored Minnesota's two-goal lead with just under three minutes remaining in the middle frame. Skating in off the rush, Primerano fired a shot glove-side high to beat the Lindenwood goaltender and make it 3-1.

The teams exchanged goals late in the third period. Maddie McCullough first extended the Gophers' lead, finishing a rebound at the goal line off a Kendra Distad shot at 7:49. Lindenwood responded just 46 seconds later to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Milani capped the scoring with her second goal of the game, firing glove-side high from the low slot to seal Minnesota's 5-2 victory and reach 10 goals on the season.

With the win, Minnesota improves to 7-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in WCHA play. Lindenwood falls to 4-8-0 overall and 1-5-0 in conference action.

"I give a lot of credit to Lindenwood," said head coach Greg "Boom" May. "They could have easily just packed it in today, but they didn't do that. They gave us everything they could handle, and hats off to them for competing and playing hard."
