Ellen Neuharth scored her fourth goal of the season to help Minnesota earn a point against the Huskies
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Ellen Neuharth scored an unassisted equalizer in the 67th minute to help the University of Minnesota women's soccer team (7-6-3, 3-5-2 Big Ten) earn a 1-1 draw against No. 12 Washington (11-1-4, 6-1-3 Big Ten) on Thursday night at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
The Golden Gophers bounced back after trailing early in the second half, matching the 12th-ranked Huskies with 10 shots apiece.
Minnesota keeper Sarah Martin made five saves to anchor Minnesota's defensive effort.
After a scoreless opening period, Washington struck first in the 48th minute when Angelica Chou scored off assists from Alex Buck and Andrea Leyva.
Minnesota tied the match in the 67th minute when Neuharth finished off a service into the box from Taylor Heimerl. Heimerl delivered the free kick to the middle of the 18-yard box causing it to bounce around until Neuharth created space and finished her fourth goal of the season to level the score at 1-1.
Martin, Heimerl, Kate Childers, Selah Koleth, Matigann Vixayvong, and Keegan Schmeiser all played the full 90 minutes. Martin and the backline also successfully defended nine Husky corner kick attempts.
The Maroon and Gold wrap up their home regular-season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 25, against Oregon at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
