Minnesota Falls Short in Hard-Fought 1-0 Battle at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. - The University of Minnesota women's soccer team (7-6-2, 3-5-1 Big Ten) dropped a 1-0 decision to Wisconsin (8-4-3, 4-3-2 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon at the Dan McClimon Memorial Track/Soccer Complex.
The Golden Gophers put five of their 10 shots on goal, but could not break through against the Badgers.
Goalkeeper Sarah Martin made one save for the Maroon and Gold. Alongside Martin, Kate Childers, Taylor Heimerl, Matigann Vixayvong, and Keegan Schmeiser each played the full 90 minutes.
Both teams went into halftime scoreless after a defensive opening 45 minutes. Minnesota's attack created early chances in the second half, putting shots on target from Caroline Birdsell and Ava Westlund.
Wisconsin found the game-winner in the 74th minute when Erin Connolly scored off an assist from Delaney Cox.
Minnesota returns home this week to face No. 14 Washington on Thursday and Oregon on Sunday. Both matches can be streamed live on B1G+.
