Gophers Host No. 21 Trojans on Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team (11-4, 2-2 Big Ten) looks ahead to Sunday as the No. 21 Southern California Trojans (10-5, 2-2 Big Ten) come to The Barn. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on B1G+. Fans can also listen on KFAN+ 96.7 FM with Justin Gaard and Lynnette Sjoquist on the call.

STARTING FIVE
  • The Golden Gopher women's basketball team continues its three-game homestand after playing three straight road contests. Following Sunday's game, Minnesota will look ahead to face No. 4 UCLA on Wednesday.
  • Minnesota earned its second Big Ten win Wednesday, defeating Northwestern 79-47. The Gophers shot 50% as a team and did not commit a turnover until midway through the third quarter.
  • Tori McKinney, Brylee Glenn and Sophie Hart combined for 40 points Wednesday against the Wildcats. McKinney recorded her highest-scoring game of the season with 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting, along with six rebounds.
  • Minnesota is ranked No. 14 in the NET and is one of nine Big Ten teams in the top 25.
  • The Gophers rank eighth nationally and third in the Big Ten in assist-to-turnover ratio (257 assists, 157 turnovers).
  • Grace Grocholski leads Minnesota with 197 points and 13.1 points per game. Grocholski is shooting 52.9% from the field, 48% from beyond the arc, and 93.8% from the line. She's second overall on the Gophers' roster with 43 assists.
  • Mara Braun and Grocholski each reached 1,000 career points this season. With those milestones, Minnesota now has three active 1,000-point scorers, including Amaya Battle. Glenn is nearing the mark with 906 career points.
  • Battle has recorded 537 career assists, ranking fourth in Minnesota history. She needs eight more to surpass Shayne Mullaney (544) for third on the program's career assists list.

GOLDEN GOPHER DEFENSE
  • Minnesota leads the nation with 11 games holding opponents to 50 points or fewer.
  • The maroon and gold defense ranks second nationally and first in the Big Ten in fewest turnovers per game (10.5) and first nationally and in the conference in scoring defense (51.1 points per game).
GOPHERS IN THE RANKINGS
  • Grocholski ranks seventh nationally and second in the Big Ten in three-point percentage, shooting 48% with 36 made 3-pointers this season. She also ranks seventh in the Big Ten in 3-pointers per game, averaging 2.4. Against No. 7 Maryland, Grocholski knocked down a career-high nine 3-pointers on her way to a career-best 31 points, tying the program mark for the second-most 3-pointers made in a game by a Gopher.
  • Battle ranks ninth in the Big Ten in rebounds per game at 7.5. She leads Minnesota with 113 total rebounds and has increased her per-game average from 5.1 last season to 7.5 this year.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Southern California leads the all-time series 2-1, dating back to 1981. Minnesota's lone win came in 2003 at the Junkanoo Jam, when the Gophers defeated the Trojans 84-61 in the Bahamas.
  • Southern California defeated Minnesota 82-69 last season in Los Angeles. Sophie Hart finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Battle added 14 points.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
  • The 2025-26 season marks the fifth season under head coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
  • The Trojans are 10-5 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play this season and are looking to bounce back after two straight losses to Oregon (71-66) and No. 4 UCLA (80-46).
  • Freshman Jazzy Davidson leads the Trojans in points per game (16.3) and minutes played, averaging 33:04. She has recorded 14 double-figure scoring games this season, including 12 straight since Nov. 18.
  • Sophomore Kennedy Smith leads Southern California in assists per game, averaging 3.7.
