The Gophers begin Big Ten play at Nebraska on Thursday

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's soccer team (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten) fell 1-0 to the Milwaukee Panthers (2-4-1, 0-0-0 Horizon League) on Friday evening in front of 934 fans at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

Despite the scoreline, the Golden Gophers led Milwaukee in shots, 23-8, and in shots on goal, 10-6. Tenley Senden and Freya Jupp led Minnesota with four shots apiece, while Paige Kalal, Mya Nugent and Davy Mokelke each added three.

Goalkeeper Sarah Martin recorded five saves.

Although the first half was scoreless, the Gophers generated multiple chances on goal and outshot the Panthers 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes.

Coming out of the locker room, the Maroon and Gold continued to apply offensive pressure, adding 16 more shots.

Milwaukee scored the game's lone goal in the 82nd minute off a corner kick. A Panther delivered the ball to the six-yard box, where it bounced around before Zoey Pagels headed it to Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett, who scored on a header.

Minnesota opens Big Ten play on the road next Thursday, traveling to Nebraska to face the Huskers in Lincoln. The match will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Central on Big Ten Network.
