This is the first B1G weekly awards Minnesota has received this season
MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota senior forward Freya Jupp and junior defender Kate Childers have been named the Big Ten Offensive Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.
A native of Portsmouth, England, Jupp scored her first goal as a Golden Gopher in Thursday's match against Marquette. She followed up with a standout performance Monday against Brown, netting both of Minnesota's goals in the 2-0 win. Jupp recorded all three of the Gophers' shots on goal, converting two as Minnesota earned its fourth straight victory.
Childers, a graduate of Grand Blanc High School, scored the game-winning goal in Minnesota's 4-3 victory over Marquette. The goal marked her second career game-winner and third career goal overall. The junior defender has played every minute of the season so far, totaling 450 minutes across five matches.
The Gophers (4-1-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten) return to action Friday for their final nonconference game as they host the Milwaukee Panthers (1-4-1, 0-0-0 Horizon League). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with the match streaming live on B1G+.
