Caroline Birdsell and Kate Childers scored for Minnesota
LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Minnesota women's soccer team (4-2-1, 0-0-1 Big Ten) earned a point on the road, drawing 2-2 with Nebraska (5-0-3, 0-0-1 Big Ten) on Thursday evening at Hibner Stadium in front of 706 fans.
Caroline Birdsell and Kate Childers scored for the Golden Gophers, while three other players recorded at least one shot. Goalkeeper Sarah Martin finished with five saves.
Minnesota opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the match. After a ball played into the 18-yard box bounced around, Birdsell found space and used her right foot to send a shot to the far post past the Nebraska goalkeeper.
Childers doubled the lead in the 23rd minute with her third goal of the season. Paige Kalal's corner kick deflected off several players before landing at Childers' feet. She converted with her left foot to make it 2-0.
The Gophers closed the first half with eight total shots.
Nebraska broke through in the 84th minute when Reagan Raabe finished a long pass from Ella Rudney. With just under two minutes remaining, Rudney tied the match with a point-blank shot inside the six-yard box, assisted by Sadie Waite.
