Sutherland Totals Three Hits in Minnesota's Loss to Nebraska

LINCOLN, NEB.- The Minnesota Golden Gophers got three hits from sophomore Charlie Sutherland in a 5-4 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday.
Sophomore Will Whelan (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Minnesota (22-23, ). Junior Noah Rooney was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit.
Sutherland's three-hit day led the Golden Gophers offensively. Junior Drew Berkland put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Josh Fitzgerald also helped out for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Minnesota got an RBI single from senior Jake Perry, scoring Sutherland from third base.
The Cornhuskers failed to push any runs across before the Golden Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Minnesota scored twice on Berkland's two-run homer, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Golden Gophers.
Minnesota's lead had disappeared once the sixth inning came around and turned into a 4-3 Nebraska advantage, when the Golden Gophers tied up the game at four. The Golden Gophers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Fitzgerald. Nebraska then scored one time over the remaining three innings to break the tie and grab the 5-4 win.
