Three Gophers made the CSC Academic All-District Team
MINNEAPOLIS - Mia Liepert, Sofia Pinto, and Aiva Schmitz of the University of Minnesota tennis team have earned a spot on the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team, announced Tuesday.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
In order to be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, recipients must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition and hold a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Earning her first career honors on both the Big Ten Sportsmanship Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team, junior Aiva Schmitz continues to lead by example for the Maroon and Gold. The team captain held the top singles spot for Minnesota throughout the season. Named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List, Schmitz earned 15 singles victories, including notable wins over Boise State, Northwestern, Illinois, Alabama, and Missouri. The New Auburn, Wis., native also went 3-0 in singles play at the annual Gopher Invitational.
Junior Sofia Pinto was recognized for her hard work on the court and in the classroom this season. The Lisbon, Portugal, native led the team with 16 singles victories. She finished 3-4 in Big Ten singles play with wins over Northwestern, Indiana, and Purdue. In doubles, Pinto also went 3-4 in conference action, earning victories against Rutgers, Indiana, and Purdue.
Earning her first CSC Academic All-District honor, sophomore Mia Liepert made her mark in both singles and doubles, competing at the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. Liepert led the team with 16 doubles victories and posted a 4-2 record in Big Ten singles play, earning wins over Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana, and Purdue. The Bludenz, Austria, native also strung together a five-match singles win streak from Feb. 2 to Feb. 15.
Looking ahead, all three honorees: Schmitz, Pinto, and Liepert plan to return for the 2025 season. With their leadership, talent, and experience returning, the Gophers will enter next season with a strong foundation.
