HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. — The University of Minnesota women's golf team closed out play at the Big Ten Championships earlier today. The Gophers closed out the championship today shooting eight-over par to finish with a score of 27-over par and tied for 11th overall. The Maroon and Gold tied with Purdue and captured wins over Maryland (+31), Iowa (+35), Penn State (+37), Indiana (+40), Washington (+40), and Nebraska (+57).
"The team did a great job battling back from a tough first round," said head coach Matt Higgins. "Great to see low rounds from Madison and Reese today! All the girls fought hard in very windy conditions."
Oregon captured the championship title with a score of 12-under par. The Duck's Kiara Romero took home the individual title with a score of 7-under par.
Notable:
Sophomore Mariana Mesones led the Gophers to finish tied for 19th with a final score of three-over (76-69-74). This is her third consecutive top-20 finish.
Junior Isabella McCauley concluded the event with a score of nine-over par (76-72-77). The Minnesota native finished tied for 46th place.
Madison Le moved seventeen spots up the leaderboard in the final round to finish tied for 50th with a final score of ten-over par (78-76-72). The junior's round three 72 (E) is her career best with the Golden Gophers.
Junior Ruby Chi finished tied for 61st with a score of 12-over par (77-73-78). Freshman Reese McCauley concluded the tournament with a score of 13-over par (82-74-73) and tied for 65th.
