'U' Secures B1G Boat of the Week Honors

First award of the year for Minnesota
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The First Varsity Four crew from the University of Minnesota rowing team was named one of two Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week recipients as announced by the league Tuesday.
The Golden Gophers' First Varsity Four boat turned in a commanding performance this weekend at the Big 12/Big Ten Double Duels in Kansas City, Kan., delivering back-to-back statement wins. The Maroon and Gold opened the regatta Friday night with a resounding 29-second victory over San Diego, setting the tone early.
They followed up Saturday morning with an even more decisive performance, cruising to a 34-second win over host Kansas. The impressive effort for the Minnesota crew featured three sophomores (Jaden Deutscher, Emily Franke, Sophia Pirigyi) and one junior (Nuala Macfarlane), while being guided by a freshman coxswain (Annika Maiorino).
Last season, the Gophers claimed two weekly awards from the league office with both coming from their First Varsity Eight crew, while this is the first honor for the Maroon and Gold in 2024-25.
