One of 35 Canadians identified
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota rower Lexi Schimnowski was recently identified as a 2025 RBC Future Olympian by National Sport Organization (NSO) scouts. This honor came after she took part in a gathering of Canada's Top 100 athletes at the RBC Training Ground National Final back in November. As one of the top 35 selected, Schimnowski will receive funding and dedicated support as she continues her pursuit of representing Team Canada on the international stage.
"I'm incredibly excited and honoured to be recognized as one of RBC's Future Olympians," Schimnowski said. "This opportunity combined with the unwavering support of my Gopher Rowing coaches and teammates brings me one step closer to representing Team Canada."
Hailing from East St. Paul, Manitoba, Schimnowski is in her second season rowing with the Golden Gophers. During her first year, she mainly raced with the Varsity Eights and closed the campaign behind a sixth-place effort in the Grand Finals at the 2025 Big Ten Conference Championships in May as part of the Second Varsity Eight crew.
This fall, the junior helped her Maroon and Gold boats finish third in both the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four races against a loaded field at Virginia's Rivanna Romp in November. She also helped win the season-opening Collegiate 8+ race at the 2025 Head of the Mississippi on campus in October.
The support provided by RBC is more than financial, as Schimnowski and the others selected will receive mentorship from RBC Olympians, coaching from National Sport Organizations, and resources to assist them in the transition into high performance sport.
