Two Podium Finishes, New School Record Headline Gophers’ Opening Day of Men’s Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gopher men's swimming and diving program kicked off the 2025 Big Ten Championships with a sweep on the podium, as both the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay squads reached a top-eight finish on Wednesday evening.

Minnesota's 800 free relay team shattered their 6:21.92 seed time by over six seconds, clinching 5th place with a school record and 'A' cut of 6:15.06.

Daniel Eichel led off the race with a time of 1:34.00, followed by Bar Soloveychik's 1:32.85. Joey Tepper then recorded a time of 1:34.08 in his split before Kaiser Neverman anchored the relay with a 1:34.13. 

The Gophers' 200 medley relay squad started the day off for the Maroon & Gold, placing 8th with a season-best time of 1:24.26. 

The 200 medley team started off with Casey Stowe's split of 21.18. Kaiser Neverman followed up with a time of 23.32 before Jacob Johnson notched a 20.29. Davide Harabagiu anchored the race with a 19.47 split.

With 94 points on the day, Minnesota sits in seventh place overall heading into the second day of competition. Indiana leads with 116 points, followed by Southern California with 112, then Ohio State with 110. 

Thursday's schedule includes preliminaries and finals for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 free relay, and 1 meter dive.
