Crocker-Johnson's Double Double Paces Gophers in 95-50 Win

11/8/2025 2:08:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Jaylen Crocker-Johnson added his second double-double in as many games, while five Gophers scored in double-digits to lead Minnesota in a 95-50 win over Alcorn State. With the win, Minnesota moves to 2-0 on the season in its opening week of play.

Crocker-Johnson established a career-high 16 rebounds, bettering his 15 he had as a freshman in 2023. Crocker-Johnson bettered his 13 point, 14 rebound performance against Gardner-Webb in the season opener. Also scoring in double figures was Cade Tyson who had a game-best 21 points, Chansey Willis Jr., with 13 and Robert Vaihola and Isaac Asuma each with 12 points.

The margin of victory for the Gophers was 45 points, which marks the first time Minnesota has won by that margin since Nov. 21, 2017 when the Gophers won, 100-57 over Alabama A&M. As a team, Minnesota went 29-of-60 from the floor and scored 95 points despite only going 5-of-16 from three-point range. The Gophers also were successful at the charity stripe, scoring 32 free throws on 37 attempts. Minnesota also outrebounded the Braves by a 50-24 margin.

Minnesota jumped out to a 17-0 start off an Asuma bucket, followed by an and one attempt. The Gophers pushed the lead to 28-4 off a Rob Vaihola basket, which capped off a 9-0 run for the Gophers. Willis reached double-figure points with 5:31 remaining in the first with a basket. Asuma put the lead to 32 when he scored his fourth bucket of the half and took a 47-15 lead. The Gophers held the Braves to just 17 points in the first half, a season-low through three games.

In the second half, the Gophers went on a 7-0 run in a minute and 59 secionds for a 57-20 lead off a Langston Reynolds layup. The Gophers capped off a 12-0 run off a Langston dunk with 9:53 remaining in the game. The Gophers then went on a 6-0 run with a pair of Crocker-Johnson free throws.

Minnesota is back in action when it travels to Missouri on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Game time is 7 p.m. and will be streamed on SECN+.
