Third Period Surge Lifts Minnesota Over Bemidji State, 6-2

11/14/2025 3:29:00 PM | Women's Hockey

MINNEAPOLIS – A dominant four-goal third period powered the No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team to a 6-2 win over Bemidji State on Friday afternoon at 3M Arena at Mariucci in the second annual Field Trip Day presented by Kwik Trip.

Bemidji State opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the game, but the Gophers answered at 6:31 of the first. Abbey Murphy's shot from the high slot created a rebound opportunity for Emma Kreisz on the backdoor, who buried Minnesota's equalizer.

Minnesota took its first lead midway through the second period while shorthanded. Skating through the low slot, Ava Lindsay dropped a pass back to Sydney Morrow, who hammered home a blocker-side one-timer at 10:46. The Beavers responded with a power-play tally at 15:25, sending the game into the third tied 2-2.

The Gophers took over from there. Lindsay delivered the eventual game-winner at 5:26 of the third, spinning in the high slot before firing a shot that deflected off a BSU defender and in. Just over two minutes later, Jamie Nelson extended the lead, weaving through a Beaver defender and ripping a low glove-side shot off a faceoff win from Madison Kaiser.

Josefin Bouveng added a shorthanded strike at 12:24, speeding in alone and finishing blocker-side to push her point streak to 12 games. Murphy capped the scoring with her 17th of the season, beating the goaltender five-hole on a rush to secure the 6-2 victory for the Maroon & Gold.

Quotable
"The energy in the building was electric," said Head Coach Brad Frost. "Having five or six thousand cheering kids for our Field Trip Day was just awesome. The opportunity to get over to 3M Arena at Mariucci and play there was so much fun and to see all these kids come in with their lunch boxes, counting the clock down, and obviously getting really excited when our team scores. Overall, just a great day."

Notable
- Minnesota played its first game at 3M Arena at Mariucci since March 1, 2002.
- Josefin Bouveng scored her seventh goal of the season, extending her point streak to 12 consecutive games.
- Three Gophers recorded multi-point performances (Kreisz, Murphy, and Lindsay).
- The Gophers have now scored three shorthanded goals over their last two games.
- With 56 shots on goal, Minnesota recorded its first 50-shot game of the season while holding Bemidji to just 12 shots on goal.
