ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a 5-3 victory over No. 10 St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, completing a weekend sweep of the Huskies. After a back-and-forth first two periods, Minnesota netted two goals in the third to secure its sixth consecutive win to start the 2025-26 season.

St. Cloud State opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead just 6:11 into the first period.

Minnesota responded less than two minutes into the second. Chloe Primerano took a pass from Sarah Paul, skated into the high slot, and ripped a wrist shot off the right post and in to tie the game at one.

Abbey Murphy gave the Gophers their first lead at 11:17 of the second. With time winding down on a power play, Ava Lindsay fed Josefin Bouveng below the goal line, who delivered a cross-crease no-look pass to Murphy for a one-timer in front of the net.

The Huskies equalized late in the period, scoring on a deflected puck during a power play.

Murphy answered again at 17:42 of the frame to restore Minnesota's lead. On an odd-player rush, Nelli Laitinen took a feed from Bella Fanale and fired a low shot off the pads of the Huskies' goaltender. Murphy pounced on the rebound in the slot and buried her second of the game, giving the Gophers a 3-2 advantage.

St. Cloud State tied the contest once more with 31 seconds remaining in the second period, sneaking a shot under Layla Hemp's left pad to make it 3-3.

Less than a minute into the third, Sarah Paul reclaimed the lead for Minnesota with her third goal of the season. On a two-on-one rush, Paul worked a give-and-go with Madison Kaiser, circled around the net, and fired a shot five-hole to put the Gophers up 4-3.

Minnesota extended its lead midway through the third. From the right faceoff circle, Molly Jordan found Emma Kreisz crashing the slot. Kreisz ripped a high far-side shot for her first goal of the season, capping off the Gophers' 5-3 win.

Quotable
"A great win today here on the road and we're really proud of our group," said head coach Brad Frost. "We hung in there, being tied at three going into the third period, but found a way to close it out. Special teams were good again both ways. We're looking forward to getting home and preparing for a top-three match up next week."

- Abbey Murphy tallied her 115th career goal, tying Hannah Brandt for second all-time in program history.
- Hannah Clark made nine saves in third-period relief to earn the win.
