The Boilers scored eight runs in the ninth
MINNEAPOLIS --The Minnesota Golden Gophers struggled on Saturday, falling to the Purdue Boilermakers by final score of 15-3.
Senior Ben Shepard (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Minnesota (7-22, 2-3 Big Ten) despite giving up just two earned runs in five innings.
Freshman Sam Hunt led the way offensively for the Golden Gophers, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with an RBI. Freshmen Easton Fritcher and Danny Davis both got their first collegiate hits while Boston Merila also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Minnesota.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Purdue went up 7-0 before scoring eight runs in the top of the ninth to break the game open.
Trailing 15-0, the Golden Gophers put three runs on the board in the ninth inning. Minnesota scored on an RBI single from Easton Fritcher and a two-run single from Sam Hunt.
