MINNEAPOLIS – The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed Gopher Hockey alum Casey Mittelstadt to a one-year contract, the organization announced this week.Â
Â
Mittelstadt, who was selected eighth overall by Buffalo in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, has skated in 108 NHL games with the Sabres while tallying 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists).Â
A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mittelstadt recorded 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 34 games for the Gophers during the 2017-18 season, earning Big Ten All-Freshman honors and finishing second on the team in scoring. Mittelstadt also helped the U.S. National Junior Team earn a bronze medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after leading the event with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in seven games.
A graduate of Eden Prairie High School, Mittelstadt was named Minnesota's Mr. Hockey in 2017 as the state's top boys' hockey player. He led the Eagles to four-straight state tournaments and was a two-time all-state honoree.
