Gopher Hockey to Honor Doug Woog

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota and the Gopher Hockey program will honor Minnesota hockey legend Doug Woog on Saturday night as the Maroon & Gold host the Mariucci Classic at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
An All-American on the ice for the Gophers and later the head coach at the University of Minnesota, Woog passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the age of 75.
Minnesota will celebrate Woog's legacy before Saturday's 7:00 p.m. CT game against Bemidji State while the team will wear "Wooger" nameplates on the team's gold jerseys for the contest. Minnesota will also wear commemorative Woog patches for the remainder of the season. Fans are encouraged to visit the fan relations table in Section 24 during Saturday's game to drop off or create notes, pictures and signs that will be shared with the Woog family at Sunday's celebration of life event for Coach Woog at South St. Paul High School (700 2nd St. North, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
Additionally, the University of Minnesota will host Doug Woog Night on Saturday, Jan. 25 as the Gophers host Ohio State at 3M Arena at Mariucci at 7:30 p.m. CT. Members of the Woog family and Gopher Hockey alumni will be on hand for the night of celebration in honor of Coach Woog.
