MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher men's hockey program surrendered its first loss on home ice to North Dakota in over a decade on Thursday night, falling 9-3 at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
The Gophers (5-7-3 overall, 2-3-3-2 Big Ten) had previously gone nine games at home (5-0-4) without a loss to the Fighting Hawks, dating back to a 2-1 overtime loss on Feb. 1, 2008.
Ben Meyers, Jack Perbix and Sampo Ranta scored for the Maroon & Gold while a total of nine Gophers tallied points in the loss.
North Dakota (11-1-2, 5-0-1-1 NCHC) outshot Minnesota 36-21 on the night while both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play. All three Minnesota goalies saw action with Jack LaFontaine suffering the loss.
Notable
Sampo Ranta now has eight points (four goals, four assists) in the last eight games for the Maroon & Gold while he matched his freshman goal total with his sixth of the year on Thursday night. Tonight's game marked the first official college hockey game held on Thanksgiving since Michigan and Wisconsin played in 2000.
