Walker Named to U.S. WJC Roster

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey freshman Sammy Walker was named to USA Hockey's preliminary roster for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship on Wednesday.
Walker is the second Minnesota freshman named to a preliminary roster for the tournament this week joining Finland's Sampo Ranta.
A native of Edina, Minn., Walker has played in all 13 games this season for the Maroon & Gold with nine points (three goals, six assists). Last year's Mr. Hockey Award winner, Walker leads Minnesota's freshman class in scoring this season. The forward was selected in the seventh round (200th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The University of Minnesota has a proud history at the World Junior Championship with Gopher Hockey being represented at 40 of 42 previous tournaments.
USA Hockey will hold training camp from Dec. 15-17 at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Wash. USA Hockey will name its final roster for the U.S. National Junior Team by Dec. 23 before the World Junior Championship gets underway Dec. 26, 2018-Jan. 5, 2019 in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
