Sheehy Named Big Ten First Star

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey senior captain Tyler Sheehy has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week after his performance in Minnesota's Big Ten series against Michigan State over the weekend, the conference announced on Tuesday.
A native of Burnsville, Minn., Sheehy led the nation with four goals over the weekend as the Gophers and Spartans split the series at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The senior forward pocketed a pair of even-strength goals in Friday's 7-2 win to open the series before tallying two power-play goals in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Spartans. The two-goal performances from Sheehy marked the second time in the senior's career that he recorded multi-goal showings in back-to-back games (Dec. 2 and 3, 2016 against Ohio State).
Minnesota's active leading scorer, Sheehy has 115 points (49 goals, 66 assists) in 122 career games with the Maroon & Gold.
The Gophers close out a six-game home stand next weekend with a Big Ten series against Ohio State at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Tickets are available at MyGopherSports.com.
