MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Following a four-point weekend and a career game at Boston College, Gopher Hockey senior forward Vinni Lettieri has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week.
A native of Excelsior, Minn., Lettieri tied for the Big Ten lead with four points (two goals, two assists) over the weekend.
The senior forward set a new career high with three points on Sunday as the Maroon & Gold rallied to best Boston College on the road by a 4-2 margin. Not only did Lettieri score the game-winning goal against the Eagles, he also set up the opening goal with an assist just 34 seconds into the game and ended the contest with an assist on an empty-net tally in the final minute.
Lettieri also scored a goal in Friday's game at Northeastern, giving the forward goals in back-to-back games.
The senior has 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 12 games this season.
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, this is the first career Big Ten weekly honor for Lettieri.
The three-time defending Big Ten champions kick off the conference schedule next weekend with a two-game series against Ohio State at Mariucci Arena. Tickets for the 2016-17 season are available at MyGopherSports.com or by calling 1-800-U-Gopher.
