BOSTON (GopherSports.com) - Justin Kloos notched his second career hat trick, but it wasn't enough on Friday night as the Gophers fell to Northeastern 6-4 at Matthews Arena.
Vinni Lettieri also notched his fifth goal of the year while Tyler Sheehy and Jake Bischoff each added a pair of assists.
Kloos doubled his goal total for the year for Minnesota (5-4-2 overall, 0-0-0-0 Big Ten) after entering the game with three including the lone goal in last Saturday's 1-0 win over Minnesota State. His second tally on Friday night marked his 50th career goal with the Maroon & Gold while he would add his 51st later in the contest.
The Gophers rallied after surrendering a goal to Northeastern just 35 seconds into the contest and went into the first intermission up 3-2 thanks to a pair of goals from Kloos and Lettieri's wraparound tally. After five combined goals in the first, Kloos completed the hat trick with the only goal of the second.
But the Huskies won the third period with four unanswered goals including a hat trick of their own from Dylan Sikura.
Minnesota went 1-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill while outshooting Northeastern 31-27.
Eric Schierhorn took the loss for the Gophers, making 21 saves to move to 5-4-3 on the year.
A nationally ranked matchup awaits the Maroon & Gold on Sunday as they play No. 4/3 Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Puck drop at Conte Forum is set for 12 p.m. CT.
