MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gopher Hockey's Eric Schierhorn played more than 116 minutes of shutout hockey over the weekend to earn the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
The Anchorage, Alaska native currently leads the Big Ten with a .931 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average.
Schierhorn backstopped the Gophers to a road shutout on Friday night as the Maroon & Gold topped Minnesota State 4-0 at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato for the freshman's second career shutout. The netminder made 31 saves in the win and then followed up with another 28 on Saturday as the Mavericks forced as series split.
This week's honor marks the second career Big Ten accolade for Schierhorn, who was named Big Ten First Star of the Week on Oct. 27
Ohio State's David Gust was named Big Ten First Star of the Week while Michigan's Brendan Warren was tabbed Big Ten Second Star of the Week.
Minnesota is off this weekend before returning to action with a two-game nonconference series against St. Cloud State, Nov. 27-29, at Mariucci Arena.
