MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) — After a three-point weekend that included the game-winning goal over Boston College, Gopher Hockey's Ben Marshall has been tabbed the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday morning.

The senior defenseman from Mahtomedi, Minn., picked up his first career Big Ten weekly honor on Tuesday after doubling his season point total over the weekend.

An alternate captain for the Maroon & Gold, Marshall tallied the deciding goal in Friday's 6-2 win at Boston College on Friday night for his second goal of the year and then assisted on Minnesota's pair of power-play goals at Northeastern on Saturday. Marshall's six points this year (two goals, four assists) rank second among Minnesota defensemen while the senior also tallied a pair of blocked shots over the weekend.

Zach Nagelvoort of Michigan was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week while Ohio State's Christian Frey was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week.

The Gophers close out the first half of the season and close out a five-game road trip this weekend at Michigan State with the Maroon & Gold's first Big Ten series of the year.
